In 1892, the US Rubber Company came up with comfortable rubber sneakers with canvas tops and called them, "Keds". They got the nickname "Sneakers" because they were so quiet, a person wearing them could stealthily sneak up on someone. We prefer to call our classic understated sneakers "Shoes", but the stealthiness remains...and they go great with most casual outfits.
